Travel back to the ancient Maya era with a full day exploring the ruins of Coba and taking a dip in an underground cenote swimming hole.
Enjoy a scenic ferry ride to mainland Mexico and then an air-conditioned coach ride to the remote jungle environs of Coba. Situated around two big lagoons, these grounds were once home to some 50,000 inhabitants, as well as the largest network of original sacbeob (white roads) of the Mayan world.
Here you’ll see palaces, ball courts and engraved stele (stone or wooden slabs) that depict ceremonial life in Mesoamerica. You’ll also have the chance to climb all 120 steps of Nohoch Mul, the highest Mayan pyramid in the Yucatán.
Then it’s time to cool off in a local cenote. Natural sinkholes formed from the subsiding of limestone bedrock, these mystical grottoes were used by the ancient Maya as sacrificial offering grounds.
Today, you’ll delight in a swim through crystalline waters at one of these turquoise pools before returning to port.
